Cappella of Grand Junction: A Leading Dementia Care Community on the Western Slope

September 17, 2025

At Cappella of Grand Junction, we’ve created a dementia care community on the Western Slope that provides opportunities for residents to grow and flourish. Our approach to senior memory support comes from deep understanding and embraces a person-centered approach to older adult care. We are committed to fostering a healthy, positive, responsive environment where residents’ needs and values are respected.

Leaders in Dementia Care

Leaders in dementia careCappella of Grand Junction offers a unique and caring approach to senior memory support, focusing on possibilities for older adults living with dementia. Here, residents can experience a sense of belonging in an accepting, adaptive community.

From the architecture to chef-planned meals to a calendar packed with life-affirming activities, each element of our community was designed to enhance residents’ quality of life.

Holistic Memory Support through Our Unique Rhythms Dementia Services

Every resident has a natural rhythm to his or her life, beliefs and values they hold dear. Rather than encouraging residents to abandon those life-anchoring rhythms, we adapt to support their way of life. Our team members often form deep, personal relationships with residents, allowing them to better meet both spoken and unspoken needs.

We strive to create an environment where residents are supported and empowered on their dementia journeys.

Through our Rhythms Dementia Services program, we design a personalized Alzheimer’s and dementia care plan for each resident, one that honors each individual, maintains dignity, and nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.

We aren’t focused exclusively on what your family member has lost. Rather, we look for what is possible and provide personalized memory support that upholds and celebrates key areas of life.

Prioritizing Whole-Person Well-Being

On Colorado’s Western Slope, Cappella of Grand Junction prioritizes…

A person-centered approach to memory care

We believe that as an enriching memory support community, we play an important role in supporting each person to safely and successfully live well with dementia.

Jessica Luh Kim, an international culture change and dementia educator, has supported Cappella of Grand Junction and fellow CLC communities in our efforts to engage, support, and foster true belonging for those on the dementia journey.

“When I ask people living with dementia what they need to live well, the response is rarely a call for a cure. Instead, they express a desire to be treated like anyone else, to remain engaged in meaningful activities, and to be recognized for their strengths and continued abilities despite changes.”

– Jessica Luh Kim, international culture change and dementia educator

She emphasizes the importance of moving away from a biomedical approach to dementia care, which focuses on deficits, decline, managing symptoms of dementia, etc. Instead, she encourages adopting a person-directed approach to dementia care, focusing on “knowing each person deeply, putting the person before the diagnosis and task, and recognizing the impact of people and the environment on well-being.”

Meaningful connections and friendships

Cappella of Grand Junction residents come from all across the Western Slope. But once they’re here, they have opportunities to forge meaningful new friendships—because daily activities create engaging on-ramps for mingling, learning, and making fresh connections.

Book clubs, musical performances, community sing-alongs, afternoon movies, pie and coffee socials, a comfortable corner reserved for crafters and puzzle enthusiasts—we are a leader in supporting those living with dementia with meaningful interactions with fellow residents and care partners.

Review a monthly activity calendar and you’ll see how many ways there are for your loved one to form satisfying relationships. We’ve worked with residents to carefully incorporate a wide range of activities and programs for diverse interests.

Spiritual care

Optional morning devotions are meaningful for many residents. Scripture reading is appreciated by others. And a non-denominational church service every Sunday offers music and fellowship.

Catholic communion is also available, as are conversations with a caring and compassionate Western Slope pastor.

We honor the spiritual lives of residents and support the traditions that bring residents comfort.

Programming that builds strength and stamina

Individualized health and wellness support for residents includes an onsite fitness center, spa, pet therapy, and Movement 4 Life program.

Through this programming, residents are encouraged to maintain strength, balance, and flexibility through daily movement. Simple movements, recommended by physical therapists, are integrated into routines to build whole body wellness and decrease the risk of falls.

Resident-Centered Memory Care on the Western Slope

We’re proud that Cappella of Grand Junction has received the prestigious Activated Insights Customer Experience Award. This honor is given only after extensive interviews with residents and their families, and just the top 15% of communities are recognized with this award.
